CPU (Central Processing Unit) is the brain of a computer. Also called a chip or processor. It is the processors job of carrying out the instructions from the operating system and installed software. The four main steps of a CPU are to fetch instructions, decode, execute and write back the results. Connected directly to the Motherboard, it is the performance of the processor that will ultimately determine the speed at which your programs and system operate.
